Brighton hen do guide

Brighton is great if you are looking for

  • Foodie Paradise

  • Inclusive City

  • Seaside Location

We love our hometown, the seaside location that welcomes hen groups from all the the country to celebrate here in style. Brighton balances the traditional with the obscure, from fish and chips on the pier to some of the UKs best drag performers, this destination has everything and more. The food scene is legendary as is the bar and club scene, the only problem is you may not want to go home once the weekend is over. Everyone falls in love with this stunning and inclusive city

We sell activities and accommodation to suit all budgets and group types. Our party planners can help talk through the whole process, or feel free to send us a message on WhatsApp if you're unsure about anything at all. We're all Brighton local experts, therefore this is both a subject we're knowledgable about as well as one we're passionate about. Below you'll find some of our top tips, from how to travel around, where to eat and what you should get up to, beyond our amazing activities highlighted above.

Getting around

The city centre is fairly compact and easily walkable, although comfy shoes are recommended! Most of the main activities are all close together, but our team can discuss where each activity is, in case you might need to hop on a bus or a taxi. But the bars, restaurants and nightclubs are all within a 5 minute walk of each other.

There is a Beryl Bike scheme in the city and, in our opinion, there’s nothing quite like cycling along the seafront down to Brighton Marina, or up to Hove lawns on a sunny day. You can completely skip cars as there is a pedestrian and bike area only. The bikes cost just £1 to unlock and then cost from 8p a minute to hire. They also have e-bikes, which also cost £1 to unlock and then 18p per minute to ride, ideal if you have some members in the group that want the exploration without the exercise. You can leave them at any bike station when you’ve had enough peddling, with numerous stops all over the city.

Speaking of Brighton Marina, there’s also the Volks Railway, a cute mini train that runs from the Brighton Zip Wire every 15 minutes over to the Marina. This is more of a kids activity, but if you've never been to Brighton before or simply want to embrace childhood then this could be a unique activity to try without taking up too much of your day. Plus it gets you to the Marina much quicker than walking.

The bus service is also extremely reliable with routes across the whole city and beyond. You can check the Brighton & Hove Buses website for a timetable, or on Google Maps which is now pretty good at breaking down the route. You can order mobile tickets and download the Brighton & Hove buses app, allowing you to order slightly cheaper tickets and keep it on your phone rather than paper based.

You may also spot the Big Lemon, which offers affordable pricing and uses renewable energy with zero emmissions. It's actually setup by the community and now has six routes across the city.

If you're coming from a different city, then the train is the main way you will arrive. Once you leave the station, it's a straight walk along Queen's road down towards the beach. Queen's road becomes West Street after the clocktower, the home to a number of bars that receive regular hen groups.

Gatwick airport is approximately 30 minutes away and the Gatwick Express rail service runs every 30 minutes direct to Brighton, perfect commute times for any overseas hens.

Tips and ideas

The city has many unique areas to explore during your hen weekend and we have put together a handy guide to help you navigate this gorgeous destination

  • At Churchill Square you will find high street giants such as H&M, Accessorize, Hollister and Foot Locker here. Churchill Square is the commercial part of town and great for brand shopping (there are other areas of Brighton for more unique stores). Just outside of the mall, you will also find Primark, Flannels & M&S. There are also many food vendors and pubs in the area.
  • West Street is where you will find Wetherspoons, Pryzm, MaGGIE Mae's, Revolution, Walkabout and many fast food shops! This street is the go-to place for stag and hen parties looking for a typical rowdy night on the town. Pryzm is your latenight venue, closing at 4am on the weekends, as well as Wednesday (student night).
  • The Lanes are a famous shopping area made up of tight 'Lanes', which are great to walk through, with no cars around. You will find a plethora of jewellery stores, as well as great restaurants like Dishoom and Donatello. The oldest building in Brighton is the Pump House, a pub in the Lanes, while you also have some great bakeries that are worht visiting.
  • Similarly named but not to be confused, The North Laines are one of Brighton’s biggest selling points. Bursting with independent, quirky shops selling vintage clothes, diamonds, vinyl, soft furnishings, artwork and more, you and the girls can spend many an hour wandering through these (mostly) pedestrianised streets shopping and visiting the many bars and eateries. Snoopers Paradise is arguably the most famous, like a mix between a charity shop, an antique shop and just Brighton in a tin. Beyond Retro has some great retro clothing, while Dirty Harry is also a famous store with the recognisable graffiti at the front.
  • The Brighton Pavilion is Brighton’s most iconic building, given to Queen Victoria by her uncle King George IV in the 1700's, the building has enjoyed many incarnations since, including being a war hospital. You can now pay for a guided tour and the music room in particular is showstopping. But you could equally just relax in the Pavilion gardens, ideal if you just want to relax in the sun, before all the drinking begins again.
  • Visiting the Seafront, what will you do first? Will it be a walk along the Palace Pier for fair rides and fish and chips? Or a flight on the Brighton i360 for the best panoramic view of the city? Whether it’s eating delicious food on the beach or enjoying the live music and cocktails in the many bars along the strip. Now that’s our idea of a great day out…
  • Brighton Marina is situated a stone’s throw away from central Brighton, a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. With picturesque views and a wide variety of restaurants, cinema, Glowballs mini-golf, casino and bowling, there is much to do for any hen party. There is also a Wetherspoons, with a rooftop area so you can look out at the boats while enjoying a prosecco. Speaking of the boats, you can also hire them out or arrange a speed boat trip.
  • St James’ Street in Brighton boasts one of the UK's most lively LGBTQ+ scenes and you will find many bars and clubs situated here. Nightly free drag shows, karaoke and live music performances are the norm.

Festivals

  • Brighton Fringe Festival is hosted every May when the city comes back to life after the long wet winter. The programme of events is mindblowing, with everything from theatre to circus and drag to comedy. This is the perfect time to plan a visit as you will be bowled over with the variety and good vibes.
  • On The Beach, as the name suggests, this is a day festival situated on Brighton beach that occurs over two weekends in July. Big name DJs and artists are guaranteed, with the likes of Carl Cox, Kate Nash and The Kooks appearing in previous years. Expect a mixture of all music genres with something for everyone.
  • Brighton Pride is held during the first weekend in August. The parade kicks off at 11am, leading revellers to Fabuloso at Preston Park while the legendary street parties occur in the aforementioned St James’ Street, burst with party goers all weekend and late into the night, while the party in Preston Park buzzes all day until 10pm. There are many other events occurring in all parts of the city during the whole weekend and fun is guaranteed.
  • Boundary Festival,  this is one for lovers of house and drum & bass. Boundary happens at the end of September each year. This lively day festival is situated in the glorious grounds of Stanmer Park on the outskirts of Brighton, finishing at 10pm.

It goes without saying that Brighton is one of the most hedonistic cities on the south coast and is not only inclusive but incredibly eclectic. There is almost too much to do and deciding where to go can be overwhelming. As ever, Hen Party Deals is here to swoop in and give you some of our top recommendations!

Bars

Starting your day of fun, we recommend heading down to the seafront to experience sunshine and cocktails. Tempest and Fortune of War are always lively and have a great atmosphere, with plenty of outside seating. Further along, you and the girls will find Brighton Music Hall, which also has plenty of outside seating and hosts singers performing all day long during the summer months. The seafront is busy even after the sun goes down, you will find DJ's aplenty to keep the party going.

Just up from the seafront, you won’t want to miss Twisted Lime on Middle Street, there’s a huge tropical feel to the bar and gorgeous tiki themed area. Happy hour cocktail deals generally run from 12 midday until 7pm on Sundays to Fridays.

On West Street, head to Revolution for a bar that very much becomes a nightclub with a dancefloor after a certain hour. The venue loves large groups and is always a lively place to be at the weekend.

The Black Lion is one of the most happening bars at the weekends and attracts a younger crowd, expect dancing aplenty and a decent outside space. It's also next door to the Cricketers, so if you're not feeling it, you don't have to travel far for the next bar. In fact, you'll be less than a one minute walk from Mesmerist, another amazing bar with a photobooth and some great cocktails available.

If it’s live music you crave then look no further than Maggie Mae's, this Irish themed bar plays host to some incredible performers all weekend until 1am. Be At One provides a serious party vibe with bar staff who will literally dance on the bar while covering themselves in ice, the cocktails are amazing too and there are regular happy hours. You can also book a cocktail making class here. There are over 300 pubs in the city, so make sure you explore and find them all, that’s a pub crawl to remember!

Nightclubs

Most hen parties will end up in Prizm situated on West Street, the club has themed rooms all playing different music genres and can hold a huge capacity. Check out our club package for more info, you and the girls can book a booth and drinks package!

The latenight option is often Shooshh, open until 5am on both Friday and Saturday nights. Shoosh is located along the seafront, while you'll also find Tide Beachclub along here, open earlier in the day but only staying open till 2am, meaning it's often more popular as an early evening location.

For the 'more wild' groups, Volks has stood the test of time, based on Madeira drive. Two others along the seafront you will find are the Arch and Horizon.

Restaurants

Brighton is quite literally food heaven, with no less than 400 different eateries to try! There’s every cuisine here under the sun and probably some you won’t have heard of. Check out our restaurant booking package to ensure a seamless evening of amazing food in a venue that is happy to accept large groups of ladies.

Pizza Pilgrims is a great option for pizza fans, they have traditional and also more unique options. It's also central and near to a number of bars, making it an ideal spot for lunch or dinner on your Brighton hen do. Another option is Las Iguanas, a bit closer to Brighton station, where you can enjoy South American food, plus some unbelievable cocktails.

We have a number of food and drink packages available for Revolution, not to mention bottomless brunches available here, so this could the ideal spot where you'll spend a big portion of your weekend. For something a bit classy, you might want to try Cafe Rouge, the Parisian bistro style restaurant, which offers meat, fish and vegan options to suit everyone's taste.
