  • Friendly locals

Liverpool is steeped in iconic musical history with gorgeous landmarks including the Royal Albert Dock and more shops, bars and clubs than you can shake a stick at. This is one of our most popular hen destinations for good reason

Liverpool is an ideal city to visit if you're a foodie, with so many different restaurants, branching into every different origin, so you can have the best meal ever on your Liverpool hen weekend. The amazing sights and architecture make it a great place to sightsee, but we've no doubt you may be slightly busy, therefore it largely comes down to how good the hen activities are and Liverpool is one of the best in the country. From drag shows to life drawing classes and activity bars, this city has anything and everything you're after.

Getting around

Liverpool is the second most walkable city in the UK, and the most pedestrian friendly in England, which is great news for your hen party. With a compact city centre, wide pavements and reasonable traffic volumes, each attraction is just a stroll away. Public transport in Liverpool also includes the ferry, although buses are the main mode of transport used with a regular and reliable service.

Merseyrail offers frequent services across a staggering 68 stations, including four central underground stations. For far flung hens, John Lennon Airport is just 30 mins away from the city centre. It’s safe to say Liverpool is an extremely accessible city to visit or navigate.

The bus really is the most popular form of transport in Liverpool, with 400,00 people utilising this in the city, therefore the transport links have become impeccable. A single journey will only cost you a couple of quid.

The three main public transport routes are run by Merseyrail, Arriva and Stagecoach. If you're coming from a different city then the train is undoubtedly the quickest option.

Of course, if you'd rather a taxi or Uber, these are both readily available. The main taxi services in Liverpool is One Call Taxis and Alpha Taxis.

Tips and ideas

  • Concert Square - Located between Wood and Fleet Street, you will find the heart of Liverpool’s nightlife. Visitors and locals have been partying here for 20 years and this exciting area continues to evolve. Home to the best bars and nightclubs in the city, you and the girls are sure to find everything from cocktails to pints and party all night long.
  • Hardman Street - A historic street lined with stunning architecture, and also home to St Luke’s, Liverpool’s famous bombed out church. But it isn’t just buildings you will find here, Hardman Street also boasts many bars and restaurants and is definitely worth a visit.
  • Mathew Street - This is where you will find the famous Cavern Club where the Beatles performed during their early years. You will find many references to the Fab Four (and Cilla Black) along this street with multiple bars, shops and eateries galore. Definitely one for the Gram.
  • Pride Quarter - Also known as Stanley Street Quarter (encompassing many other streets) plays host to the main LGBTQ+ bars, clubs and hotels. Aspects of Liverpool’s annual Pride celebration are also celebrated here at the end of July. It was in June 2021, that the district was dubbed Pride Quarter in a bid to rebrand and become the UK's first formally recognised LGBTQ+ area.
  • The Royal Albert Dock - This is the most visited location in the North West and is home to museums, galleries, bars, cafes and restaurants. This hugely popular tourist hub overlooks the famous River Mersey and is a must-visit for any hen party. Festival of Summer occurs at the end of July until the end of August each year and you can expect to be wowed with street performances, DJs, food and drink festivals and of course Liverpool Pride celebrations. The docks are filled with unique selfie spots and artworks and a Beatles Exhibit, there’s lots to do here that is completely free.
  • Liverpool One - Situated on the docks, this huge retail and leisure destination area houses more than just high street stores. You and the girls can expect to find indoor and outdoor entertainment, cinema, mini golf as well as food and high-end shopping. There’s something to suit all budgets and tastes.

Did we mention that Liverpool is one of the most wild nightlife destinations in the North West of England? Seriously, we're not exaggerating. But trying to decide where to go can be somewhat overwhelming, fear not ladies, with 20 years experience organising hen weekends in this wonderful city, we have compiled some up-to-date inspo on where to go during your hen weekend.

Bars

Number one has to be The Cavern Club bar and nightclub and birthplace of The Beatles (the Cavern pub and nightclub are on the same road next to each other, in case you get confused when you spot there are two), featuring intimate brickwork cellars, 60s memorabilia and hosting regular live tribute acts. Funnyboyz is an award-winning drag show, with bottomless brunches and bingo. You are guaranteed a hilarious and interactive evening.

The Liverpool Gin Distillery Bar and School produces their own organic gin on site and you can make your own in the gin school as well as enjoying a few cheeky ones in the actual bar. 81 LTD is a  speakeasy bar that is so secretive you need a special code to get in, you text a number and you receive the entry information, expect cocktails and high-end vibes.

You and the girls will love Ex Directory, the entrance is in fact through a red telephone box, you can sip quirky cocktails such as a mini bath tub, complete with rubber ducks. The Oracle offers tableside magicians and expertly shaken cocktails. Illusion is the order of the day, so be prepared to be bamboozled!

Nightclubs

If it’s fun you seek then you can’t go far wrong with Popworld, expect 90's vibes and drink deals galore! This is a student bar during the week, but on the weekend it's home to everyone who loves some cheesy music.

Level boasts three floors with LED walls making it perfect for those Instagram moments, while the venue hosts weekly house DJ events. Mansion Nightclub features booths, a VIP section (who, you?) plus basement cocktail bar. The aptly named Flares is a 70's style disco and is popular with hen and stag parties. The Blue Angel (also known as The Raz) is an iconic live music venue where The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan used to play in the 1960's.

Also, don’t forget, you can book a nightclub package through us which will guarantee you entry as a large group. There are also VIP packages available from some providers, please make sure you check the details when booking. These packages can't help with skipping the queue, getting a private table area for your group, as well as drinks to be served on arrival so you don't even have to go to the bar to order.

Restaurants

Liverpool has a thriving food scene, in fact Time Out have heralded the city as one of the best in the world for food! There’s everything from Michelin Star establishments to your average burger bar. It’s safe to say you and the girls will find something to suit all tastes and budgets.

Hen Party Deals also offer a number of restaurant packages. All you need to do is select the cuisine and off you go. This is a great way to take the hassle out of finding somewhere to go last minute when you arrive, and the perfect activity for your first night. All of the restaurants we partner with offer second to none food and service (and some even provide cheeky entertainment, nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

Many of the optimal restaurants have a relaxed atmosphere, as you want somewhere hen friendly, such as TGI Fridays, which can also offer numerous other activities like cocktail making, in case you want a food package combined with a fun activity.

FAQs

Is Liverpool hen party friendly?

Absolutely! Funnyboyz and many other businesses in the city thrives on hen parties and this is the city that loves to party, so you will all be in great company. Liverpool has remained in the top 3 hen destinations over the past 20 years for good reason. All the attractions of London but at a much lower cost per person.

When is the best time to visit?

As with any UK city, expect changeable weather and slightly colder climates as Liverpool is in the North West of the country. Generally, summer months are warmer and the Royal Albert Docks hosts the Festival of Summer from the end of July (Liverpool Pride) right through until the end of August, so there’s loads of exciting street performers, food and drink festivals, DJs and live music all shown for free in this space.

How long should a hen party last?

Most hens will book for a weekend from Friday until Sunday, although if you can, Thursday leaving Monday is ideal. There’s so much to do and hangovers (?) to recover from, so the more time spent the better! Also our accommodation is REALLY good value so you can book a few extra nights without breaking the bank.

Famous For

Liverpool is most famous for being the birthplace of The Beatles and also its premiership football team, Liverpool FC, based at Anfield Stadium. We’ve uncovered a few more fun facts about this wonderful city of culture.

How did Liverpool get its name? According to research the word translated from old English literally means ‘muddy pool’, this would give some indication of life before roads in a very rainy part of the country!

The winding staircases in Harry Potter films at Hogwarts are thought to have been inspired by the stairs at Liverpool Central Library. Photo opportunity?

Liverpool One is the largest open air shopping centre in the whole of Europe. It was designed this way so that you can stand anywhere within its boundaries and see all of the Liverpool landmarks. That’s if you can tear yourselves away from shopping!

Author Charles Dickens became a temporary police officer for a few days as research for one of his books. Liverpool was a source of inspiration for many of his works, including ‘A Christmas Carol’, which had its premier reading at St George’s Hall.

There’s a surprising folklore connection to the city too, did you know the city was founded by King John in 1207? This is the man who reportedly battled with Robin Hood and his Merry Men!
