hen activities in Tenerife

As the largest of Spain's Canary Islands, Tenerife is a destination that has it all. Year-round sunshine, sandy beaches and an unbeatable nightlife scene, combined with rugged natural beauty and Colonial architecture, dominated by dormant volcano Mt. Teide, Spain's highest peak that could see you wanting to swap your flip flops for hiking boots.

Tenerife also boasts five Michelin Starred restaurants and approximately 70 vineyards, sure you might not be eating at one of these on your hen weekend, but the opportunity is there and they also have a number of lower budget options if preferred. The island is internationally recognised for its wine and with nine different grape varieties, that's a lot of wine for you and the girls to try.

There really is something to cater for all tastes on your hen party adventure, whether it's party time and dancing the night away or exploring the incredible natural landscape. You can always do both!

  • Party central

Prepare for some serious fun, Tenerife isn’t called the party island for nothing. With beach clubs galore, water parks, quad biking, booze cruises, pole dancing classes, jet skiing, cocktail making and pool parties. After enjoying a terrific social whirlwind, you and the girls can unwind on the sun soaked deck of a boat while watching whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. There's also hiking, stargazing or exploring the many outdoor markets.

There are many exciting activities to keep you entertained during your hen do in Tenerife and we have hand-picked our favourites in order to make your life as easy as possible. Our hassle-free packages will ensure your hen has the time of her life, not only that, we will make sure you get exclusive deals from our high-end entertainment providers.

Tenerife is renowned for its high octane nightlife and activities coupled with a vast array of amazing restaurants and chilled out natural surroundings. This beautiful Canary Island lends itself well to the party central reputation where you can dance until the early hours of the morning with like minded people all looking for a good time. The Las Americas party scene is legendary and sees visitors clamouring to return year on year. Year-round sunshine guarantees this Canary Island will always be a bustling hub and with the famous Playa Del Medano beach stretching for 2 km, means there will be no fighting for a sun lounger. We love the versatility on offer, if it's a balance of crazy nights and relaxed excursions you're after, Tenerife has you and the ladies covered.

Getting around

Getting around the island is a breeze, you can take advantage of the public transport system which comprises of buses, trams and taxis. If you wish to explore further afield car hire is available.

The buses, known as 'guaguas' (try saying that after a sangria) covers all parts of the island, so they really are useful if you'd rather save money and avoid cabs. They're bright green, so you really can't miss them. When you get on, you can either order a single for that journey, however if you believe you'll be taking multiple trips that day, you should go to the TITSA bus station and order a bus pass, which is called a 'bono-bus', while this can even be bought as a group and save you approximately 50% off your trip. If the bus station is a bit far, a number of newsagents actually sell them as well, so just look out for the TITSA sticker on the window.

The tram also runs through Tenerife, with line one taking 21 stops and running for 40 minutes from one end to the other, while there is also a line 2 in case this route doesn't stop at the right point for you or your hen accommodation. Much like with the buses, you can go to a MTSA office to buy a pass, or there are also ticket machines at stops where you can buy a ticket. Once you step onto the tram, there are punching machines which you slip your ticket into in order to make a hole and deem the ticket valid for that journey.

Finally, you can arrange a taxi. These are all white and follow this strict appearance, so only trust an official taxi. They will put the meter on as soon as you get in, so if you would rather negotiate a fixed price, something we often recommend where ever you're going, you should barter outside of the taxi and come to an agreement before getting in. While there are a few bigger taxi's, the majority can only hold four people.

Tips and ideas

  • The North and the South are two different worlds - the former is more traditional and relaxed, whereas the latter is party central
  •  Visit the Guachinches for great value food
  • Soak up the local culture in La Laguna
  • The local wine is pretty tasty
  • The tap water is safe to drink
  • It is not considered rude not to leave a tip - but kindness goes a long way with the locals
  • Some shops and restaurants prefer cash for smaller purchases
  • Haggling is encouraged in smaller, independent shops and is a lot of fun

Nightlife

Playa De Las Américas is the island's most popular and thriving area for nightlife and is dubbed the capital of Tenerife. The resort is situated in between Los Cristianos and Costa Adeji and compises of three districts. The main strip is called Veronica’s Strip and is lined with a string of bars and clubs that attract party people from far and wide.

Costa Adeje is also a lively destination with venues playing music to suit all tastes from reggae and rock, to house and techno.

Most clubs on the island close at around 4am, so prepare for long nights of dancing and make sure you break those heels in ladies!

FAQs

Why is Tenerife good for a hen party?

The island is a renowned party destination with sunshine at any point in the year, so you’re guaranteed to get glorious weather. There's also a chilled side to this destination, meaning you can party hard, but also get in touch with the beautiful natural surroundings. The island attracts the young and the young at heart.

What are the best hen party activities?

With everything from cocktail making, jet skiing, whale watching, spas and cheeky butlers, you and your girls will be spoilt for choice when deciding which activities to choose. People do love to book in entry to the Kaluna beach club, which gives you entry and the sunbeds, as well as half a litre of sangria or pimms per person, not a bad way to start the weekend off.

How long should a hen party in Tenerife last for?

Generally, most hen groups head here for between 2-3 nights, but the duration really comes down to personal preference. Go hard or go home is our motto! You have to factor in the flight time, which is 4 hours and 35 minutes from Gatwick, let alone further up the country, therefore you want to make the most of it, given the big time commitment at the start and end of the trip. Most groups therefore treat this as a full-on holiday and stretch it out, being the destination where we receive the most 4-day bookings. One other factor you have to consider is how much time off your friends and family can take, are they teachers needing to return to the classroom or perhaps have people they're looking after.

What should I wear for a hen party in Tenerife?

Glam is the word of the day, whether it's bikinis and kaftans by day or dresses and sky high heels by night. You will also get away with hen party paraphernalia, anything goes. If you are into hiking we suggest packing some comfortable walking clothes and trainers or hiking boots if that’s your bag.

The Landscape

The crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean around Tenerife are internationally known for their quality and temperatures. Filled with a rich marine life, the island is an undersea paradise making it perfect for snorkelling or diving. The surf is also good if you fancy taking to the waves for surfing, windsurfing or kayaking. The island's waters are guarenteed to inspire mermaid lving.

Tenerife is considered one of the best places to go stargazing in Europe. In the darkness of the Atlantic Ocean, Tenerife's Mt. Teide, Spain's highest peak, is one of the few places you can see constellations and different galaxies because of its elevation. With no light pollution and cities vastly spread out, everything is completely lit up and you'll be able to see thousands of stars. If you really want an incredibly unique experience, go up late in the afternoon to Mt. Teide National Park and go to the Parador (a hotel/restaurant inside the Caldera) to enjoy a fabulous five-star dinner from Michelin-awarded chefs.

Famous For

The island is famous for its black and white sandy beaches and there are around 70 you can visit. El Bullullo on the north of the island features the black volcanic sand, surrounded by green cliffs and banana plantations, whereas Adeji in the south is famed for miles of golden sandy beaches.

Volcanic soil makes for excellent growing conditions and the island have taken full advantage of this with a plethora of vineyards to explore. Tenerife is internationally recognised for its wine and grows nine varieties of grapes that cannot be found anywhere else in Spain. Listán Blanco, Malvasiaa, Gual, Albillo Criollo, Vijariego, Moscatel, Marmajuelo and Verdello are the grapes used to make whites, whilst rosés and wines are made mostly of Listán Negro, Negramoll and Tintilla. Chin chin girlies!

Tenerife also boasts Europes largest lava tube, if you're looking for a unique and educational activity for the day. Shaped by lava flows from Pico Viejo, part of Mount Teide is The Cueva del Viento. Also known as the Wind Cave, this lava cave is Europe's largest lava tube and the fifth largest in the world. The top four largest are all located in Hawaii.
